All the deets from Brewmaster Sam Enders

Stronghouse crafts all its beer in house on a 7.5bbl system with 5 fermentation vessels and 8 serving tanks all built in Montrose, CO with American steel.

We seek out the finest quality ingredients to match authentic beer styles from around the globe. The majority of our grain is U.S. and Canadian grown malt as well as imported German, English and Belgium malt. Most of our hops come from our great friends at Billy Goat Hop Farm outside of Montrose, CO. We also source hops from the Pacific Northwest, Germany, Czech Republic, and New Zealand.

The San Juan Mountains provides great base water for brewing. Telluride water is fairly soft which is great for brewing light lagers, but easy to build up to different water profiles to match whatever beer style we are making. We do not filter any of our beer, we use time, lagering, and a process called “Fining” to make our beer brite while not stripping flavor and aroma through a filter. As an added benefit, Fining also reduces gluten in beers, making the beer lighter on your digestion.

House Beers

STRONGHOUSE LAGER 5.5% ABV

O.G. 12p F.G. 1.5p 1.7p IBUs 28

Our Flagship Lager is a German Style Pilsner. Brewed with authentic German Barke Pilsen and Vienna malts with large additions of Crystal hops to bring out a fine crisp bitterness to balance out this beer. Fermented slow and cold with Andechs lager yeast and lagered for 10 weeks to bring that traditional crisp German lager flavor and drinkability. This beer takes a long time from grain to glass but the end result is why it is our best selling beer, year after year.

HONEY GINGER BLONDE ALE
5% ABV

O.G. 11p F.G. 1.5p IBUs 30

Simple grain bill of Pilsner, Vienna, Aromatic malts with 5 gallons of honey added to the boil. Very light hopping of Magnum and Cascade hops from Billy Goat Hop Farm in Montrose, CO. This beer is our take on a shandy, a very light blonde ale that has a bright burst of ginger sweetness from freshly juiced ginger. Balanced, light and refreshing, it’s sure to quench your thirst.

COLDFIRE PALE ALE 5.8 ABV

O.G. 13.8p F.G. 2.8p IBUs 50

Two-row, Vienna and Crystal 15 malts make up this hop-forward pale ale. A blend of Magnum, Cascade, Copper, Azacca, Cashmere, and Citra hops are lightly used in the boil kettle with a big dry hop of Azacca, Cashmere and Citra. This pale ale has all the fruity aroma you would expect from an IPA, but balanced and less bitter making it a more drinkable beer. If you find a lot of IPAs too much but love all the aromatic hop flavors, Coldfire Pale Ale is sure to please.

IRISH RED
5.1% ABV

O.G. 12.5p F.G. 3.0p IBUs 37

Always a favorite any time of the year, our Irish Red is brewed with Scottish Pale Malt as a foundation. A complex blend of Munich 20, Caramunich 60, Crystal 120, and Biscuit bring out the bready, biscuit and caramel flavors. A touch of chocolate malt brings a slight roasty aroma and a beautiful deep red color to the beer. CTZ and Crystal hops balance out the sweet malt forward beer and adds a subtle earthy flavor to this ale. Fermented with Scottish ale yeast gives it a clean low-estery flavor to allow the malt derived flavors to shine through.

WRONG WAY IPA 7.25% ABV

O.G 16.2p F.G. 3.1p IBUs 95

Named after countlessly watching car after car drive the wrong way down Gus’s Way on our front porch, Wrong Way IPA was born. A hefty grain bill of 2-Row, Vienna, Crystal 45 provides a lite amber color and a backbone for a bunch of american hops to shine. We also add some Torrified wheat for a nice smooth mouthfeel. Magnum, CTZ, Centennial, Comet, and Citra hops in the boil kettle and a 2#’s/bbl dry hop blend of Citra, Azacca and El Dorado boost this West Coast IPA to be the citrusy, piney dank beer you would expect. You can’t go wrong enjoying a Wrong Way IPA.

Seasonals

HASTA LA VISTA IPA 6.6% ABV

O.G.14.9p F.G.2.6p IBUs 90

Hasta La Vista is the latest in the Experimental IPAs at Stronghouse. Once again brewed with a simple malt bill of 2-Row and Munich malt to let the hops shine through. Magnum, Chinook, Idaho 7, Eldorado and Centennial make up the kettle hops with a big dry hop of Vista hops. Vista is a relatively new variety that was developed by the USDA public breeding program and is open for any hop growers to grow, unlike Citra and many of the other proprietary hop varieties that are off limits to many hop growers. Papaya, Honeydew, pear and light lemon dominate the aroma with a smooth bitterness and a big juicy tropical flavor that we all love in a clean brite IPA. "Get to da Choppa" and say "Hasta La Vista."

RESTING BEER FACE 6.5 ABV

O.G. 14.6p F.G. 3.4p IBUs 32

A fruited kettle sour gose with 2-row malt and Flaked Barley and soured with Lactobacillus Plantarum. Lightly hopped with CTZ, Copper and Idaho 7 hops and Pink Himalayan Sea Salt to bring out the signature salty gose flavors. We then added a 500# blend of Pink guava and Passion fruit during fermentation to bring out lots of tropical fruit flavors. Resting Beer Face is complex with salty, tart, sour and fruity flavors all wrapped up in a refreshing Stronghouse classic.
